JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman faces a felony theft allegation after police say she bagged clothing at a Walmart self-checkout without paying and later refused to cooperate with an officer attempting to arrest her.
Tanya Reynolds was arrested following the Sept. 27 incident at Walmart on Highland Drive, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Craighead County.
An asset protection employee reported that Reynolds took clothing through the self-checkout area and placed it in bags without paying. The affidavit said she was contacted after passing the business’s front doors and then left the store.
A Jonesboro police officer contacted Reynolds in the parking lot and told her she was under arrest for theft. She initially placed her hands behind her back but then began turning away and refused to put her hands behind her back, the affidavit alleges.
Police said a criminal history check showed two prior theft-of-property convictions, one in April 2023 and another in February 2025.
Court records list the new theft allegation as theft of property valued at $1,000 or less, second offense, a Class D felony. Reynolds also faces a Class B misdemeanor allegation of refusal to submit to arrest.
Judge Thomas Fowler found probable cause Sept. 28 and set bond at $10,000 cash or surety. A public defender was appointed to represent Reynolds.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 23 in Craighead County Circuit Court.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
