ArDOT: I-555 changes made ahead of completion
Interstate 555 reconstruction in Jonesboro continues to progress in anticipation of a January completion of all improvements, an Arkansas Department of Transportation official said Wednesday.
The single lane of southbound traffic will return to its normal and permanent location beginning Friday, Nov. 12, as resurfacing has been completed on both sides of the interstate. Traffic will remain at one lane in each direction of this four-mile stretch as final work is done. Temporary median ramps must be removed, while striping and median cable installation and removal of the precast barrier wall will be completed over the coming weeks, ArDOT spokesman Aaron Vowell said.
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver expressed his gratitude to ArDOT for making Jonesboro’s stretch of I-555 a priority for improvement.
“I think our motorists will be pleased driving on the improved surface, and I appreciate all that ArDOT, and our local commissioner Alec Farmer, do to keep highways around Jonesboro in top condition,” Copenhaver said. “I think we will all be happy early this winter when this detailed interstate project is completed.”
