Man being held on rape charge one day after rape reported in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. – A man is in Craighead County Jail on two charges, one of which is an alleged rape charge.

One day prior, Jonesboro Police Department began investigating a reported rape, public records show.

The JPD released their daily blotter report Tuesday which included the first mention of an alleged rape from the previous day to the press. Incident report 18-10801, taken sometime after 2:30 PM Monday*, was a reported rape/assault with an object/forcible compulsion charge. The MO, or description of the allegation, was that an “unknown suspect forcibly touche vaginal area of victim.”

*NEA Report determined the time frame by pulling the previous report, 18-10800, which was completed at 2:36 PM. Reports are given sequential numbers based on their date of creation.

The incident report was not available as authorities no doubt worked the case feverishly for answers.

Late Tuesday, a man was arrested for an alleged rape charge in Jonesboro, in a case police said is unrelated to the one above.

Gerardo Chavez-Cornejo, “36,” of Jonesboro, was reported arrested at 7:27 PM on Tuesday, the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office website said. In addition, he was being held for charges from other agencies, too.
