13-year-old sent to ER in Jonesboro hit-and-run

JONESBORO, Ark. – A young boy struck by a vehicle whose driver then fled the scene Tuesday evening in Jonesboro.

At about 5 p.m. Tuesday evening, 13-year-old boy was struck by a white Chevrolet Impala on Nettleton Avenue, E-911 Director Jeff Presley told NEA Report. The Impala fled west on Nettleton as the child lay injured in the roadway, Presley said.

An eyewitness report posted on Facebook by a nearby woman, Mary Waddell, said the boy was walking across the road near Carter’s Corner on Nettleton when it happened. She said he was lying on his side with what appeared to be an injury to his midsection.

“A man stopped his truck and jumped out and grabbed the boy and helped him to the side of the road,” One of her comments said. “I couldn’t tell what vehicle hit him. I just saw the boy when he was hit.”

The boy was transported to the emergency room, Presley confirmed. There was no word on his condition.

The vehicle that hit him, a white Impala as described by Presley, fled the scene and made its getaway. If you know any information which could help police find the person responsible, call Crimestoppers at 870-935-7867 (STOP). Tips remain anonymous.
