Officer accused of aggravated assault resigns

JONESBORO, Ark. – Garrett Thomason resigned from Friday night from the Jonesboro Police Department, effective immediately.

Thomason was arrested on an aggravated assault complaint Thursday in Randolph County.

Thomason had been placed on paid administrative leave by the Jonesboro Police Department, pending both the outcome of an investigation by Arkansas State Police and an internal investigation by JPD’s Office of Professional Standards.

Thomason, who had been with the Jonesboro Police Department since July of 2016, contacted Jonesboro Police Chief Rick Elliott Friday night and expressed a desire to submit an immediate resignation from the Police Department.

Elliott and Thomason met at Jonesboro Police Department headquarters at 7 p.m. Friday night where Thomason submitted his resignation and Elliott accepted it, effective immediately.
