Fatal shooting in downtown Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. – As many as six were shot and one killed in a fatal shooting in downtown Jonesboro and police are searching for answers – and suspects.

Shortly after midnight, the calls came into Jonesboro Police Department of shots being fired downtown at The Basement, 311-B South Main Street in Jonesboro. Reports from witnesses said a party was happening at the location when shots rang out. Before the chaotic scene had concluded, at least six had been shot. One was dead, said JPD Information Specialist Paul Holmes.

Monterio Barnes, 18, of Jonesboro, was pronounced dead at the scene. Five people who were injured were transported to local hospitals and one other individual was airlifted to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

A witness spoke exclusively to NEA Report and said her daughter was inside of the location when the terror broke out. She said the suspected shooter was known as “KK.” She also said the person who was killed was not even the target of the shooter.

The witness also said people were sneaking into the back door of the party venue and security became aware of it. She said once security began searching, a fight broke out – and then gunshots exploded into the night.

No arrests have been made as of 5 a.m. Sunday.

Anyone with information regarding this case may contact the Jonesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at (870) 935-6710 or Crime Stoppers at 935-7867. You may contact police anonymously. Please – do not stay quiet.
