Unwanted guests at Motel 6 arrested with drugs

JONESBORO, Ark. – After a couple refused to leave a hotel at checkout time, Jonesboro police found marijuana and meth, a report says.

At 7:18 p.m. Thursday, Officer Nathaniel Cole was sent to 2300 South Caraway Road – the Motel 6 – in reference to an unwanted guest. Two individuals had failed to check out of their room and were refusing to leave.

The officer made contact with Melisa L. Benham, 34, of Jonesboro, and Demarcus Lamar (Marcus) Mills, 32, of Jonesboro, who said they had a room but were not refusing to leave – they were just waiting to be picked up by Terri Biggers, 38, of Jonesboro, and Larry D. Childs Jr., 34, of Jonesboro. The officer smelled marijuana and made mention of it, with Biggers reportedly telling the officer she and Childs had just smoked pot.

“Biggers then showed me a marijuana cigarette in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which I took possession of,” Cole reported.

Not surprisingly, Cole had the four exit the vehicle. He reported finding marijuana in Biggers’ purse, and a small bag of suspected methamphetamine under the front passenger seat – also where Biggers had been seated.

All four were read their Miranda rights and all four denied the meth was theirs, after agreeing to speak without an attorney present. Biggers admitted the marijuana was hers but the report said she was adamant that the meth was not.

As is often the case, police arrested all four of the suspects on the charge of felony possession of methamphetamine. Biggers had a charge of possession of marijuana added. All four were taken to Craighead County Detention Center.

Childs had a dog inside of the vehicle, which was transported to the Animal Control Center.
