JONESBORO, Ark. – A gunshot rang out in The Mall at Turtle Creek on Monday morning.

Just as the mall was opening between 10 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. Monday morning, a 74-year-old retired man was walking through the mall with his wife. With his jacket draped over his shoulder, the conceal-carry license holder was carrying a Burgo short .22 caliber revolver – but the gun was inside of the jacket.

The man told the JPD officer who responded he felt something in the jacket and realized the gun was falling out of the pocket. He stopped and attempted to keep the gun from falling – but he dropped the gun. When it hit the ground, a single round was fired from the gun.

Fortunately, the round struck the sheetrock and no one was injured in the incident.

The man was cooperative with police and gave all information for the report, the police indicated.

He was released and his weapon was returned to him.
