JONESBORO, Ark. — Two juveniles told police they were lured into a Jonesboro apartment and robbed at gunpoint in an incident reported Sunday, Oct. 18, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Darrick Harris, 19, faces an allegation of aggravated robbery, a Class Y felony. Police identified him and a juvenile as suspects before both were apprehended Tuesday during a separate investigation into a report of shots heard on Mary Jane Drive, the affidavit states.
The two victims told police that two people approached them on the street and lured them into an apartment on Self Circle. One introduced himself as a 19-year-old called “DJ,” according to the affidavit.
Once inside, the suspects pointed a gun at the victims and stole a cellphone and cash, the victims reported. The victims said they ran away and later contacted police.
Footage from city-owned cameras in the area showed the suspects walking with the victims and corroborated their account, according to the affidavit.
Images of the suspects were distributed to officers Oct. 20. An officer who knew both suspects from her time as a school resource officer identified the person known as “DJ” as Harris, the affidavit states. She also identified the second suspect as a 17-year-old known to associate with him.
That same day, three people ran from officers investigating the shots-heard call on Mary Jane Drive, according to the affidavit. All three were apprehended a short time later.
Police said Harris and the juvenile robbery suspect were among those apprehended. Both were wearing articles of clothing they had also worn during the alleged robbery, according to the affidavit.
Judge Thomas Fowler found probable cause to detain Harris on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and set bond at $150,000 cash or surety. Fowler also ordered GPS ankle monitoring and no contact with the victims.
Harris was appointed a public defender. His next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 16 at the Craighead County Courthouse.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
