HOXIE, Ark. — A referee who said he suffered a heart attack while officiating in Hoxie on Friday night is crediting those who stepped in to help with saving his life.
Travis Woodruff told NEA Report on Monday afternoon that he was feeling better and gave permission to share his story.
In a Facebook post, Woodruff thanked the Hoxie head coach who noticed something was wrong, a trainer, women who assisted him, emergency medical personnel and the Hoxie School District and community.
“I truly believe I wouldn’t be here today without all of you,” Woodruff wrote. “Your quick actions helped keep me on this earth, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”
He also thanked doctors and nurses at NEA Baptist for caring for him, along with everyone who offered prayers, sent messages, called or visited.
“Your love and support mean more than words can express,” he wrote.
Woodruff opened his message by thanking God for another chance at life and closed by expressing gratitude that he could still be with his family.
“God is good, and I’m blessed to still be here with my family,” he wrote. “I love y’all, and I’ll never forget what the Hoxie community did for me.”
