PARAGOULD, Ark. — A traffic stop in Paragould led to the discovery of a Glock pistol with an extended magazine and nearly 400 grams of marijuana, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Marquan Nelson, 28, of Paragould, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with purpose to deliver, a Class C felony; simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y felony; possession of firearms by certain persons; misdemeanor drug paraphernalia; and no signals.
According to the affidavit, Officer Hunter De Sesso observed a gray Dodge Charger with dark tinted windows traveling faster than other vehicles on the roadway on May 15, 2026. Police said the vehicle suddenly slowed as it approached De Sesso’s patrol unit.
The affidavit said De Sesso got behind the vehicle and saw it activate a turn signal before immediately making a right turn, failing to provide the 100-foot notice required by state law.
During contact with the driver, De Sesso reported noticing a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. An assisting officer, Cameron Kelemen, made a passenger-side approach and observed a Glock pistol with an extended magazine in the passenger-side floorboard, according to the affidavit.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, police said De Sesso recovered about 399.6 grams of marijuana in three separate bags, numerous unused packaging materials and $500 in cash.
Police said an additional investigation revealed Nelson was a convicted felon.
Judge Curtis Hitt set bail at $250,000 cash or surety with a provision of no weapons and an ankle monitor.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
