FORREST CITY, Ark. — A former Marion police officer who was recently fired has been rehired by the St. Francis County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Forrest City Times-Herald.
St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby May confirmed to the newspaper that Trey Bynum has been rehired as a deputy with the department.
May told the Times-Herald that Bynum is a certified law enforcement officer and was hired on Tuesday, June 2. He was scheduled to begin work on July 11, according to the newspaper. May called Bynum a good officer and said he looks forward to working with him again, according to the report.
A petition has been created on Change.org seeking Bynum’s removal from the department. More than 300 people had signed the petition as of this report.
Bynum was recently fired from the Marion Police Department after scrutiny over his employment history. Marion officials said a previous law enforcement agency had not been included on Bynum’s original employment application.
The review came amid public attention over Bynum’s connection to the 2024 death of Tripp Brazeale.
May is presently seeking reelection. His general election opponents are Republican Tommy Hampton and Democrat Gil Brazeale.
