JONESBORO, Ark. — A man was arrested after police said a borrowed trailer and stolen tools were found at his residence.
Landon Edward Wise, 41, was arrested for theft of property valued at more than $1,000 but less than $5,000, a Class D felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim called police on May 26 and reported items had been stolen from his shop. The victim told officers he gave Wise a key to the shop on either May 20 or May 21 because Wise was doing yard work for him. Wise asked to use the victim’s trailer and was allowed to borrow it, according to the affidavit.
However, Wise failed to return the trailer after being told police would be called, the affidavit said.
On May 26, the victim noticed that an air compressor and other tools were missing from the shop and contacted police.
The victim later contacted a relative of Wise, who located the trailer and all of the stolen items at Wise’s residence, according to the affidavit. The relative then arranged for the victim to retrieve the property.
A detective asked the victim to call after all the items had been collected. After recovering the trailer and stolen property, the victim contacted the detective as requested.
While the victim was at Wise’s residence collecting the items, a detective found them and took photos of the victim and Wise’s relative gathering the items and loading them onto the truck and trailer, according to the affidavit. The detective verified that the stolen items were on the trailer and documented what happened after the victim left the area.
Wise’s next court date is July 30. District Judge Tommy Fowler set bail at $50,000 cash or surety, noting a long and recent history of theft.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
