CASH, Ark. — A man was arrested after Craighead County sheriff’s deputies said another man was shot in the leg during a struggle over a firearm.
Robert Kieth Harrell, 67, was arrested on a charge of second-degree battery, a Class D felony, along with possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, both misdemeanors.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched on April 17, 2026, to the 12000 block of Highway 18 East regarding an assault that had already occurred.
A deputy was advised that Harrell had assaulted the alleged victim with a firearm. Security video provided by Harrell’s wife corroborated the allegation, the affidavit states.
As the investigation continued, deputies determined that after the victim left the residence, Harrell got a handgun and drove to where the victim was to confront him.
The victim contacted Harrell on Craighead 831 Road. According to the affidavit, the victim said Harrell pointed a gun at him and said he would shoot him.
The victim told deputies he grabbed the firearm, and he and Harrell struggled over it. During the struggle, the gun went off and struck the victim in the left leg. The round entered the victim’s left calf, exited the other side of the calf, and went into his knee, according to the affidavit.
Deputies said Harrell was arrested for second-degree battery.
While speaking to Harrell, a deputy observed that he was excited and acting erratically, the affidavit states. Once Harrell was placed in custody, deputies searched him before placing him in the back seat of a patrol unit.
During the search, deputies reported finding a small plastic bag containing green marijuana, rolling papers, and a pack of OxA-Forte with two pills in Harrell’s pocket. The pills are Schedule III controlled substances, according to the affidavit.
Special Judge David Boling set Harrell’s bail at $20,000 cash or surety. His next court date is July 31.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
