JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman was arrested on felony theft charges after police said surveillance video showed a wallet being taken from an abandoned shopping cart.
Latauna A. Clark, 50, was arrested on charges of theft of property, credit or debit cards, and theft, second offense, both Class D felonies.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Jonesboro Police Department, officers responded April 6, 2026, to the 300 block of South Gee Street regarding a theft that had already occurred.
Officers interviewed the victim and management before reviewing security footage. Police said the video showed a female, later identified as Clark, approaching an abandoned shopping cart, checking her surroundings and taking a wallet from the cart before walking down the aisle.
Because Clark could not immediately be identified, images were posted to the Jonesboro Police Department Facebook page, prompting Clark to contact the department and advise that she was the person in the video, the affidavit states.
Clark was asked to come to the department for an interview. During the interview, police said Clark admitted to taking and concealing the wallet, which contained about $100 cash and credit/debit cards.
The affidavit also states Clark has a prior guilty plea for theft on March 3, 2019.
Special Judge Barbara Halsey set Clark’s bail at $35,000 cash or surety. Her next court date is June 26.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
