Suspect Arrested In $60,000 Jonesboro Road Project Theft Case

JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a $60,000 theft investigation involving a private road project in Jonesboro.

William Cody Bobbitt, 33, of Mary Esther, Florida, was arrested on a charge of theft of $25,000 or more, a Class B felony. Bail was set at $25,000 cash or surety by Special Judge Barbara Halsey.

According to a Jonesboro Police Department probable cause affidavit, a victim filed a report April 10, 2026, regarding the theft. The incident originated in spring 2025, when the victim contracted Bobbitt to extend a road at the end of Ginger Drive.

An independent engineering firm estimated the project would cost $55,000, but Bobbitt issued an invoice for $60,000 to cover parts and labor, according to the affidavit.

Police said the victim was informed, following guidance from the City of Jonesboro, that Bobbitt was required to open a municipal account and deposit the estimated project costs into a refundable escrow account to receive work approval.

On June 9, 2025, the victim issued Bobbitt a cashier’s check for $60,000 with the explicit understanding that the money would be deposited with the city, the affidavit states. However, police said the roadwork never began.

When the victim followed up with city officials on April 7, 2026, he learned Bobbitt had never deposited the funds into the required account, according to the affidavit.

Police said Bobbitt has since stopped communicating with the victim and refused to respond to inquiries from the city’s engineering officer regarding the status of the project and the missing funds.

Bobbitt’s next court date is June 26.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
