PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould suspect was arrested after police said surveillance video showed her switching barcodes on items at Walmart to pay lower prices at self-checkout.
Brytani Johnson was arrested on a felony theft of property charge in the case.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Paragould officers took a theft report on April 8 from Walmart at 2802 W. Kingshighway. Store employees told police that surveillance video from April 5 and April 6 showed Johnson entering the store and switching barcodes on items before going through self-checkout and scanning the lower-priced barcodes.
Police said the suspect took $12.64 in stolen property on April 5 and $74.04 in stolen property on April 6.
The report states Johnson was interviewed at the police department on April 20. During a Mirandized interview, police said she confessed to purposely switching barcodes to pay a lesser price for the items.
The report also states it was later discovered Johnson had been found guilty of theft by receiving on Dec. 30, 2025.
Johnson was given an OR bond and released at the recommendation of the officer, with a no-contact order in place.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
