PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould male faces a felony charge after police said he grabbed a woman around the head and neck, impeded her breathing and destroyed her smartwatch to prevent her from calling for help.
Paragould officers responded Aug. 10 to a domestic disturbance in the 1100 block of North 40th Street, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The woman told officers that her ex-boyfriend, Ryan Flanrey, attacked her during an argument. Police documented injuries to her lower lip and neck, including visible finger marks, the affidavit said.
The woman alleged Flanrey grabbed her around the head and neck and, at one point, prevented her from breathing. She also told police he intentionally destroyed her Samsung smartwatch so she could not contact authorities during the altercation.
Officers located Flanrey and arrested him.
During an interview Aug. 11 at the Greene County Jail, Flanrey admitted getting into a physical altercation and placing his hands around the woman’s head, according to the affidavit. Police said he also admitted intentionally damaging the smartwatch.
Flanrey faces one count of aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony. He also faces three Class A misdemeanor charges: third-degree domestic battery, first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree interference with emergency communication.
Jail records show bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
