JONESBORO, Ark. — Jonesboro police arrested a man Saturday night after he allegedly threatened others with a handgun during a family gathering that included several children, according to a police report.
Officers responded at about 9:17 p.m. on Dec. 13 to a report of a gunshot being fired, according to the probable cause affidavit. When officers arrived, they located one of the alleged victims, who told police she had been arguing with her ex-husband, Kevin Dewayne Martin, during a birthday gathering for their daughter.
The victim said Martin became angry during the argument, made threats to shoot a dog, and then retrieved a handgun. The victim told officers Martin allegedly waved the firearm around the room before firing a single round into the floor.
Police said three victims were present during the incident and told officers they feared for their safety due to Martin’s actions. The report states several children were also inside the residence at the time.
Martin was detained without incident and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.
He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, aggravated assault, first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, all Class D felonies, and discharging a firearm within city limits, a misdemeanor.
Bail was set at $10,000 cash or surety with a GPS ankle monitor and a no-contact order, per the request of the deputy prosecutor.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
