Shots Heard Report Prompts Precautionary Lockdown at Nettleton STEAM School

Sally Smith told NEA Report there was no shots fired call. Police responded to a report of shots heard and requested a precautionary lockdown at nearby Nettleton STEAM School.

JONESBORO, Ark. — A report of shots heard on Mary Jane Drive prompted a precautionary lockdown at nearby Nettleton STEAM School on Tuesday afternoon, according to Jonesboro police.

Officers responded to a shots-heard call at 1:11 p.m. Oct. 20 and remained in the area as of 2:19 p.m.

Jonesboro police spokeswoman Sally Smith told NEA Report that three juveniles were taken into custody.

Smith described the initial call as a report of shots heard. As of 2:15 p.m., authorities had not confirmed that gunshots were fired or that a weapon was present. According to Smith, there were no confirmed shots fired.

Because the report was near Nettleton STEAM School, officers asked the school to lock down as a precaution, Smith said.

Smith also said a separate shots-fired call Tuesday turned out to involve an orange truck backfiring.
