JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro defendant was arrested following an incident at a fifth-grade boys basketball tournament that authorities say involved threats and physical contact with a school administrator.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred on Dec. 6, 2025, after the conclusion of a fifth-grade boys basketball tournament held on the Valley View School campus. Mallik Martarius Murray, 30, of Jonesboro, was serving as an assistant coach for a team representing Nettleton Schools when he allegedly approached a Valley View player during the postgame huddle to address a shoving incident that occurred on the court just after the game ended.
A Valley View principal intervened and told Murray he did not need to speak with the opposing team’s player, according to the report. Police say Murray then shoved the principal and threatened to beat him up while using profanity.
Authorities said Murray was escorted from the building but returned and continued threatening the principal. The incidents were captured on video, and Murray can reportedly be seen being held back by individuals on multiple occasions.
Murray was arrested and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
During his court appearance before District Judge David Boling on Friday, Boling noted the charges may be amended to a misdemeanor. Based on that possibility and Murray’s lack of prior criminal history, the judge set an own-recognizance bond.
Murray’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2026.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
