City of Jonesboro Hires New Grants and Community Development Director

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver announces the hiring of Chris Richey of Benton, Arkansas, as the City’s new Director of Grants and Community Development.

Richey’s previous experience includes serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Saline County, where he led the development, submission, and stewardship of federal, state, local, and private foundation grants. He also oversaw the communication of all structural and operational details for Board review and approval of the four facilities operated by the organization.

Richey previously served as Executive Director of the Phillips County Chamber of Commerce. He also represented Helena-West Helena, District 12 in the Arkansas House of Representatives. In those roles, he advocated for economic development, education issues and job training through organizational programming and collaborations with local, state and national organizations.

“Having known Chris through the Arkansas Legislature, I am excited to bring his experience, knowledge, and integrity to the City of Jonesboro to fill one of our most important roles: community development and grants — two areas that are crucial to successful growth at the highest level,” said Mayor Harold Copenhaver.

As Director of Grants and Community Development, Richey will oversee and direct all operations of the department, including grant management, neighborhood initiatives, community and economic development.

Richey is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science, and holds a Master’s Degree in History from Arkansas State University, awarded in 1995.

He and his wife Holly, along with one of their sons, plan to make their home in Jonesboro.

“I look forward to this wonderful opportunity. Jonesboro is a great city, and its growth and improvement are a common tropic around the state. I am excited to play a part in the community’s continued progress, “he said.
