Craighead County Man Accused of Threats, Shooting Puppy in Domestic Disturbance

BONO, Ark. — A Craighead County man is accused of threatening multiple people and shooting a puppy in the eye during a domestic disturbance earlier this month.

According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies were dispatched Sept. 16 to a residence on Craighead County Road 780 for a disturbance in progress. When deputies arrived, they were told that Jake Nathaniel Miller, 23, had fled the scene. He was later located nearby.

Witnesses told deputies Miller became angry during an argument, broke a cellphone, and threatened to harm people inside the home. One witness said Miller later fired a pellet gun at a dog, striking the puppy in the eye. Deputies noted the puppy appeared to be missing its right eye.

Another witness, identified as Miller’s younger brother, told deputies Miller also threatened to destroy cellphones and kill everyone in the home. A third witness told deputies Miller threatened to break a phone and assault people while they slept.

Miller was arrested for first-degree terroristic threatening and aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat, or horse, both Class D felonies, as well as second-degree criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.

Bail was set at $75,000 cash or surety. Miller asked why the bail was so high, but Judge David Boling held firm. Miller then claimed he didn’t shoot the dog and that his brother had shot the animal.

His next court appearance is set for October 30.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
