JONESBORO, Ark. — A traffic stop for a vehicle without a displayed license plate led to the arrest of a woman on multiple drug charges after authorities said suspected methamphetamine was found in a patrol vehicle where she had been sitting.
Tiffany Ann Dowdy faces felony charges of possession of methamphetamine or cocaine less than 2 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence, along with a misdemeanor charge of possession of a Schedule IV or V controlled substance less than 28 grams.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers conducted a traffic stop Sept. 9 on a white Jeep for not displaying a license plate. Dowdy was identified as the driver, while Rodney Younger was identified as the passenger.
Authorities learned Younger was on probation. A search of his person and the immediate area of the vehicle did not locate anything, according to the affidavit.
Investigators said Younger had a hotel room at 3000 Apache Drive and told officers Dowdy had been staying there with him. A probation search of the room was conducted after both returned to the hotel.
Inside the room, officers reported finding women’s clothing in a dresser drawer along with a glass pipe containing suspected methamphetamine residue.
After the hotel search, officers returned to the traffic stop. A K-9 conducted a free-air sniff around the Jeep and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, the affidavit states.
A subsequent search allegedly uncovered two loose pills in Dowdy’s purse that authorities identified as 1-milligram clonazepam pills.
Dowdy was arrested and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. Because authorities described the drug-paraphernalia allegation as a second offense, she was charged with felony possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the affidavit.
Authorities said a prescription pill bottle was later located in Dowdy’s clothing after she arrived at the jail.
Investigators then searched the patrol vehicle where Dowdy had been seated. The affidavit states officers located approximately 1.46 grams of suspected methamphetamine on the floor of the vehicle.
Dowdy was subsequently charged with tampering with physical evidence in addition to the drug-related offenses.
Court records show bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 26 at 8:30 a.m. in Craighead County.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law
