JONESBORO, Ark. — Two men face felony charges after police said a domestic disturbance escalated into a physical altercation involving a knife and death threats.
Officers responded Sept. 9 to a residence on Sun Avenue, according to probable cause affidavits. Witnesses reported that Romine Stephen Dale McGowan and Stephan McGowan had fought and made threats toward each other and another household member.
A household member told police that Stephan McGowan pointed a knife at them aggressively and threatened to kill them following a verbal altercation. Witnesses also alleged that he lunged at Romine McGowan with the knife.
After Stephan McGowan put down the knife, Romine McGowan allegedly picked it up, jumped on him and struck him several times while holding him down. Witnesses told officers that Romine McGowan threatened to kill Stephan McGowan during the struggle.
Officers reported seeing injuries that corroborated the witnesses’ accounts.
Both men are accused of aggravated assault on a family or household member and first-degree terroristic threatening. Both offenses are Class D felonies.
Bond was set at $1,000 cash or surety for each man. Court orders also include handwritten recommendations for Mid-South evaluations. Their next court appearances are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 26.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
