PARAGOULD, Ark. – A teenager is facing multiple charges after allegedly punching a Paragould police officer and fleeing the scene during a late-night encounter involving a fake firearm, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Around midnight on July 9, Paragould officers contacted a male near the intersection of Bard Road and Rector Road who was wearing a face mask and carrying what appeared to be a firearm, later determined to be fake. Officers advised the individual that he was out past curfew. He initially claimed to be 17 years old but then said he was 18 and refused to provide his name.
When officers attempted to arrest him for obstruction of governmental operations, the individual reportedly pulled away, identified himself as Jayden Clark, struck one of the officers in the face, and fled on foot.
Officers were unable to locate the suspect at the time, but later confirmed his identity through body camera footage and government records. Clark was located and arrested later that day. According to the affidavit, he made incriminating statements about the incident during an interview.
Clark is charged with felony second-degree battery on a law enforcement officer, as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental operations, and fleeing.
Bail was set at $15,000 cash-only, and Clark is required to wear an ankle monitor if released.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
