Pizza Delivery Robbery Brings Life-In-Prison Warning In Court

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro woman could face 10 to 40 years or life in prison if convicted in an aggravated robbery case involving an $80 pizza order, a judge said in court.

Shania Sims, 23, was arrested for aggravated robbery, a Class Y felony, and misdemeanor theft.

Judge Tommy Fowler set bond at $250,000 and ordered Sims to wear a GPS ankle monitor. Her next court date is July 30.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police responded April 28 to 3308 Caraway Commons, Building 1, after a pizza delivery driver reported an armed robbery. The driver told officers he was approached by a male suspect who claimed to be picking up an $80 order for his girlfriend.

While speaking with that suspect, the driver said a second male suspect approached with a handgun, pointed it at him and demanded the food. Before the driver could react, a third male suspect lunged forward and snatched the pizza from his hands, according to the affidavit.

Police said all three suspects fled into the apartment complex.

Investigators later identified Sims as a suspect in the case. During a Mirandized interview, Sims admitted to playing the role of the contact person and providing a fake name for the order, according to the affidavit.

She told investigators that after she made contact with two males, they produced a handgun and demanded the pizza. Sims maintained she was unaware of any plan to rob the victim at gunpoint, according to the affidavit.

Cautioning the defendant and her family over the seriousness of the charge in court on Wednesday, Judge Tommy Fowler remarked that she faces “life in prison for pizza.”

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
