Man With Warrant for Sex Offender Registry Violation Arrested After Struggle in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. – A man with an active warrant for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements was arrested June 13 after allegedly resisting officers and reaching for a weapon during a struggle, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Paragould Police Department.

Cpl. Owen Mundy and Patrolman Jacob Harris made contact with Kevin Slayton at an apartment on West Kingshighway due to a warrant issued by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. When officers informed Slayton he was under arrest and attempted to handcuff him, he reportedly began pulling away and fighting them.

During the struggle, Slayton allegedly stood up and told officers, “I’m going to make y’all kill me,” before putting his hand in his pocket. Officers were able to gain control of Slayton before he pulled anything out, the affidavit says.

A straight razor was found in the pocket Slayton had reached for, and officers also located a used syringe believed to have been used to inject methamphetamine. Slayton has a prior conviction for possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Slayton, 34, faces charges of resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

Greene County District Judge Dan Stidham set bail at $10,000 cash only with conditions including a GPS ankle monitor and a ban on possessing weapons.

All suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
