Two Arrested for May 7 Shooting That Targeted Woman in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man is accused of being the driver for another person who allegedly fired gunshots at his ex-girlfriend during a May 7 shooting in Jonesboro.

At about 7:43 p.m. on May 7, 2025, JPD responded to a call of shots fired near Latourette Lane and Medallion Circle. Officers were advised that residents in the area had reported a silver car and a black car, both driving down Latourette, when the black car’s occupants opened fire on the silver car.

Officers arrived and found two nine-millimeter shell casings on the road. Both vehicles were already gone.

Not long after that, the alleged victim in the silver car called dispatch, giving her location. Officers responded and spoke with the female victim, who stated it was her ex-boyfriend, a juvenile suspect, who had shot at her. Police noticed the rear driver’s side window of the victim’s vehicle was broken. There was also damage to the pillar of the car just behind the driver’s position, suggesting the gunshots came dangerously close to hitting their target.

The victim told police she had been delivering food for DoorDash when she noticed the black car at a red light. The window rolled down, and in the rear seat behind the driver was the juvenile suspect. She said the driver was Zander Hill.

From there, the affidavit alleges the car followed her to the incident scene and continually attempted to overtake her vehicle on Latourette, “thus giving the juvenile suspect the opportunity to shoot at the vehicle.” A witness corroborated this, telling police he watched the black car attempting to pass the silver car. The witness also said he saw a black male leaning out of the rear driver’s side window with a handgun and firing several shots into the silver vehicle.

The victim sustained a cut from the broken glass but was fortunate not to have been injured further.

JPD confirmed to NEA Report today that a 17-year-old juvenile suspect was arrested on May 14, with a court date set for June 27.

Zander Kai Hill, 19, of Jonesboro, is now facing charges including terroristic act-conveyance, a Class B felony, and second-degree battery, a Class D felony.

Hill appeared before Judge Tommy Fowler on Friday for his bail hearing. Bail was set at $35,000 cash or surety.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Note: A previous version of this story included the name of the suspected shooter, which was unredacted and without age in the probable cause affidavit. To be thorough, we contacted JPD to see if the primary suspect had been arrested. Once we heard back, we learned he was, and we learned he is a minor. Because his name was released in error, and until a decision is made to charge him as an adult, we feel it prudent to remove the name from the report.
