Sex Offender Accused of Failing to Report Social Media Accounts During Compliance Check

GREENE COUNTY, Ark. — A Greene County man is accused of violating state sex offender registration laws after a compliance check revealed an unreported device with social media access.

On May 10, agents with the Arkansas Department of Corrections and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department conducted a routine sex offender compliance check at the residence of James Causey.

During the check, officers located a cellular device with internet access that contained active social media accounts. Investigators confirmed the device belonged to Causey, who had not reported having any social media accounts, as required by law.

Under Arkansas law, registered sex offenders are required to report any changes or additions to their residence, employment, vehicles, and online activity — including email and social network information — in person to local law enforcement.

Causey is being charged with failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements – refusal to cooperate with assessment process, a Class C felony. Judge Dan Stidham set bail at $25,000 cash or surety. As a condition of release, no weapons are allowed.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
