Paragould Woman Accused of Abandoning 9 Dogs That Later Had to Be Euthanized

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould woman is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say she abandoned nine dogs in an apartment without food or water, leading to the animals being euthanized.

On April 28, officers with the Paragould Police Department responded to an animal abuse complaint at an apartment on Vance Street. According to a probable cause affidavit, the landlord told police that Patricia Gibson had moved out and left the dogs behind.

Police contacted Animal Control, which found nine dogs inside the apartment. Officers noted that several of the animals had blood around their mouths and bodies. Animal Control reported that all nine dogs were severely emaciated, suffering from a severe case of parvovirus, and had no access to food or water.

Due to the animals’ condition, Animal Control said all nine dogs had to be euthanized.

Gibson is facing nine counts of aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat or equine, a Class D felony. As of Monday, bail had not been set. She was cited instead of arrested, due to health issues, police said.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
