Man Arrested After Jonesboro Burglary Cases, Out-of-State Capture

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man accused in two aggravated residential burglary cases in Jonesboro was arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border before being returned to Craighead County.

Jose Barron, 29, was arrested on two counts of aggravated residential burglary, Class Y felonies; first-degree criminal mischief involving damage valued at more than $1,000 but less than $5,000, a Class D felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Class D felony; first-degree criminal mischief involving damage valued at $1,000 or less, a misdemeanor; resisting arrest; second-degree assault; and fleeing, according to court information.

The case began March 7, when Jonesboro police responded to a residential burglary in progress on Rogers Street, according to a probable cause affidavit. Officers arrived and found a female alleged victim armed with a knife standing in the middle of the street.

The woman told police a suspect she knew as “Lalo,” later identified as Barron, had forced his way into her residence and assaulted her. She said Barron was angry about issues involving his vehicle being sold and later parked at her home while he was incarcerated.

The affidavit says Barron chased the victim into a bedroom, where he attempted to punch her several times. The victim was able to get away with the help of a friend and flee outside.

Police said Barron damaged several items inside the home as he broke through two bedroom walls, then fled through a west-facing window by shattering it. The affidavit says Barron cut himself on the window, where a large amount of blood was found. Officers did not note injuries on the victim at the time of contact.

While officers searched for Barron, dispatch advised of a second residential burglary in progress at an apartment on Calion Street. Officers contacted the homeowner, who was holding a door closed to prevent a suspect from entering the residence.

Police said Barron was seen walking toward officers at the front door. Officers gave verbal commands for the homeowner to exit, but Barron refused to comply while being told to get on the ground, leading to him being shocked with a Taser and placed in handcuffs, according to the affidavit.

Barron was bleeding heavily with several cuts to his arms requiring medical attention. He was transported to a local hospital.

After Barron received treatment, police searched his clothing and found a fold containing a brownish crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, according to the affidavit. A warrant was then issued for Barron’s arrest after his medical treatment was completed.

On April 17, Barron was located in McAllen, Texas, near the U.S.-Mexico border, where he was arrested and transported to the Hidalgo County Jail on unrelated offenses. A hold was placed on Barron so he could be extradited for his warrant. He was later transported to the Craighead County Detention Center and booked on May 17.

Barron’s next court date is June 26. Bail was set at $100,000 cash or surety by Judge David Boling, with a GPS ankle monitor ordered.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
