CORNING, Ark. — Three people were shot Saturday afternoon at Baker Sawmill Company in Corning, and a suspect was apprehended about a half-mile from the scene, according to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole. Scroll down for updates
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call at approximately 4:04 p.m. May 16 about people being shot at the business on Southwest First Street in Corning.
Deputies and Corning police officers responded and found two people with gunshot wounds inside a building at the lumber company, Cole said. A deputy and a Corning officer administered first aid until EMTs arrived.
During the response, officers learned the suspect had fled on foot, heading south through the lumber yard. Deputies and Corning officers apprehended the suspect at 4:33 p.m. at a residence about a half-mile south of the shooting scene, Cole said.
After the suspect was taken into custody, officers learned the suspect had also been shot.
Two of the people involved were transported to Jonesboro hospitals, then transferred to hospitals in Little Rock and Memphis, according to the sheriff. Another individual was also taken to a Memphis hospital.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division has taken over the investigation and will handle further information, Cole said.

CORNING, Ark. — Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Baker Sawmill Company in Corning.
At approximately 4 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and the Corning Police Department (CPD) responded to a shooting call at the business. Upon arrival, deputies located two people suffering from gunshot wounds. The suspect fled on foot but was apprehended near the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m. and was also found to have sustained a gunshot wound.
The two victims were transported to local hospitals and later transferred to medical facilities in Little Rock and Memphis for further treatment.
At the request of the CCSO and CPD, ASP Special Agents assumed the investigation.
The suspect, William K. Donald, 52, of Corning, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and, upon release, was taken into custody and booked into the Clay County Detention Center on two felony counts of First-Degree Battery
The investigation is ongoing.
