Jonesboro Mother Accused of Causing “Brutal” Injuries to 7-Year-Old

JONESBORO, Ark. — A mother is facing a felony battery charge following an investigation by police in Jonesboro.

The probable cause affidavit says on October 30, 2024, a Jonesboro school received an anonymous phone call reporting a 7-year-old victim had been beaten by the mother, identified as Ebony Beaird. The caller wished to remain anonymous, requesting only that the situation be investigated.

Detective Luke Lane began an investigation, seeking assistance from the Child Advocacy Center to conduct an interview with the alleged victim. The interview was delayed over a week due to the child’s absence from school following the incident.

When the child was eventually interviewed, the detective observed and documented injuries that included healing scratches on the right side of his face and bruising under his left eye. The child stated that the face was hurt after Beaird “whipped him.” The child denied the mother struck the face.

On Dec. 11, 2024, a witness statement was given corroborating the victim’s account. The witness stated that Beaird admitted to beating the child. Beaird reportedly asked the witness to look at the victim’s face, who described the injuries on the day of the incident as “brutal.” The witness also reported that makeup was applied to the child’s face in an attempt to conceal the injuries.

Police said Beaird was contacted multiple times and asked to attend an interview regarding the incident. Despite repeated attempts, she never showed up for any of the appointments. The detective wrote that she stated that she was afraid to attend the interview because she believed she would be arrested.

A bench warrant was subsequently issued for her arrest.

Ebony Xzavia Beaird, 30, of Jonesboro, was arrested for Second-Degree Domestic Battering, a Class B felony. Bail was set at $50,000 cash or surety. Her next court appearance is May 22, 2025.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
