Paragould Man Arrested for Felony in Alleged Domestic Violence Incident

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Greene County man is facing numerous charges after an alleged domestic violence incident last week in Paragould.

The probable cause affidavit states that on August 30, officers responded to a residence on North 30th Street about a report of domestic violence. When police arrived, they contacted the defendant, noting he had “bloodshot and watery eyes.” Officers also said he was behaving belligerently and refused to answer basic questions.

Police then made contact with a female at the residence. She told authorities the defendant had taken her phone, shoved her into a wall, choked her, struck her in the left side of the face, and locked her in a bedroom.

Detective Jacob L. Higdon, who wrote the PC affidavit, noted officers on a different shift had been dispatched to the same residence approximately 15 hours earlier. On that call, a neighbor had reported an argument with a male hitting a female. During that incident, the female told police the defendant had been drinking before they began arguing. He had allegedly taken her phone during that incident.

James B. Smith, 45, of Paragould, was arrested on charges including aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony; second-degree false imprisonment, a Class A misdemeanor; interference with emergency communication in the first degree, a Class A misdemeanor; and public intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor.

Judge Dan Stidham set the bond at $10,000 cash-only, with a no-contact order issued.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
