JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect fleeing from police last month in Jonesboro learned the hard way that ignoring blue lights is a bad idea.
At approximately 7:34 p.m. on July 19, 2024, officers with the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force were engaged in a pursuit that was on I-555 in Jonesboro, according to Cindy Murphy, communications director for the Arkansas Department of Public Safety. The original reason for the stop was driving left of center, according to the probable cause affidavit.
State troopers took over the pursuit on the interstate. The suspect’s vehicle exited I-555 onto Southwest Drive. A trooper executed a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) and the suspect, Daylon Derrick Powell, 21, of Jonesboro was taken into custody.
Powell was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.
The PC affidavit says that police found a sandwich-sized bag of marijuana that was thrown out during the pursuit and located by another officer.
Powell faces charges including felony fleeing, reckless driving, possession of a schedule VI substance, and driving left of center. His next court date is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on August 23.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
