PARAGOULD, Ark. – Two people were found dead from gunshot wounds on Monday in Greene County, a press release from Sheriff Brad Snyder said. Authorities do not believe there to be a larger threat to the area.

At about 8:40  AM on February 5, 2024, Paragould Emergency Services received a call from a person concerned about a friend they had not spoken to in several days. Sgt. Tanner Hill was dispatched to an address near the Finch community to attempt to make contact.

When Sgt. Hill arrived, no one answered the door. He also tried to call a phone number and the press release mentions other means of contact, too, but none were successful. Feeling that something was wrong, the deputy waited for backup to arrive before crawling atop an outdoor HVAC unit in order to view inside the residence. In doing so, Sgt. Hill observed a body lying in the floor of the home. At that point, exigent circumstances were met and entry was made into the home.

Upon entry, deputies located two people who were deceased. Both suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Detectives with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene to begin their investigation, as did the Greene County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.

Both bodies are being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsies to confirm cause and manner of death, the sheriff’s release said. At this time, no names are being released pending proper notifications to family members.

It should be noted that we are NOT searching for a suspect, and the public is in no danger regarding this incident.

More information will be released in the future, as it is appropriate to do so.
