Suspect Arrested After Police Say He Threatened Officer During Public Intoxication Call

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A suspect was arrested after police said he threatened an officer during a public intoxication call.

Cody Aaron Burton, 33, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony; public intoxication, a misdemeanor; and tampering with evidence, a misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers responded May 29, 2026, to the 2300 block of West Kingshighway for a report of an intoxicated person. Officers reported seeing Burton stumbling in the parking lot of a business while holding a beer can.

As officers approached, Burton discarded the can into the grass nearby, according to the affidavit.

Officers said Burton appeared unsteady, swayed while leaning against an officer’s vehicle, smelled strongly of alcohol and had slurred speech while communicating.

Burton was placed under arrest and asked to speak with a supervisor, according to the affidavit. Once the supervisor arrived, police said Burton began shouting racial profanities.

While Burton was being placed in an officer’s vehicle, he continued using racial slurs and told one assisting officer that he “wished he’d kill him,” according to the affidavit. He was then transported to the Greene County Detention Center.

Bond was set at $15,000 cash-only. A no-contact order was issued. Burton was also ordered to have no weapons and to wear an ankle monitor.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
