Jonesboro Police Investigate Alleged $297,000 Online Crypto Scam

JONESBORO, Ark. – A recent police report filed in Jonesboro unveils a distressing account alleging that a man was defrauded of a significant sum.

The incident was reported on Dec. 20 at 5:20 PM. The report details how a 55-year-old male fell victim to an online scam. The alleged victim said he had been contacted through LinkedIn by a female suspect who then had him follow up with her on Whatsapp to “communicate more freely.”

The report says the suspect began showing her crypto currency trading harvest returns. She then asked the victim if he wanted to learn how to invest in crypto. He agreed and transferred money from his bank account to his Crypto.com account. After he had made several investments in the account, he lost access to the money. The man is now unable to access the account or withdraw any money at all.

In total, he reported $297,000 was stolen.

The report identifies a female suspect by the name of Mary Campbell. However, it remains uncertain whether this identity corresponds to a real individual or a fictitious persona involved in the alleged fraud.

Authorities are investigating the report.

The case underscores the risks associated with online transactions and the importance of exercising caution and due diligence while engaging in financial dealings, especially those involving cryptocurrencies.
