Two Dogs Found Deceased Inside Truck, Owner Charged with Animal Cruelty

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. – A man finds himself facing felony charges in an animal cruelty case from Mississippi County.

On May 13, 2024, Blytheville Animal Services and officers from the Blytheville Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Broadway after reports of two deceased dogs inside a truck. Upon arrival, officers found two German Shepherds in a state of partial decomposition, with flies and maggots observed around the vehicle, a press release said.

The property and animal owner, Gary Huskey, 53, of Blytheville, informed officers that he had placed the dogs in the truck to protect them from a house fire. He claimed to have contacted a tow company to remove the vehicle after the dogs died inside. However, the investigation revealed no record of a fire at that residence.

Huskey was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty. He was transported to the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office. A $100,000 bond was set for his release by Judge Shannon Langston in Blytheville District Court.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
