Memphis Suspects Arrested after Theft at Hibbett Sports in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. – An incident of theft at Hibbett Sports on November 30 in Paragould led to a pursuit, arrests, and the recovery of stolen merchandise by local law enforcement.

The probable cause affidavit says that a Hibbett Sports employee alerted a nearby Officer from the Arkansas Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Division and Paragould Emergency Services immediately after the incident began to unfold. The officer was told several individuals stole a large amount of clothing and were fleeing the area on foot. The ADC Officer spotted two individuals fleeing the store carrying a sizable quantity of clothing and pursued them.

During the pursuit, the ADC Officer apprehended one of the suspects, Jojuan T. Lyons, who reportedly resisted arrest, causing injury to the officer’s thumb. Simultaneously, the other individual fled the scene in a black Infiniti QX60 driven by a co-defendant, Quinton L. Shaw. The vehicle circled the area of Walnut Drive in an attempt to pick up Lyons.

Upon the arrival of a Paragould Police Department officer, the black Infiniti QX60 attempted to evade law enforcement, nearly colliding with the officer, according to the affidavit. Another Paragould officer witnessed the incident and initiated a traffic stop at Walnut Drive and Highway 412 West. Despite attempting to flee, the vehicle eventually stopped at an apartment complex located at 801 Vance Street.

Law enforcement officers removed Shaw and a juvenile co-defendant from the vehicle, where multiple clothing items, still tagged with price labels, were visible. A subsequent search warrant for the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately $850 worth of stolen clothing from Hibbett Sports.

Quinton L. Shaw, 25, of Memphis, faces charges including fleeing, a Class C felony in this case, aggravated assault, a Class D felony, and theft of property, a Class D felony. His bond was set at $50,000 cash-only with conditions that he not possess any weapons.

Jojuan L. Lyons, of Memphis, is facing charges including felony theft of property, felony battery in the second degree, and misdemeanors for resisting arrest, fleeing, and possession of a controlled substance. Jail records show he also has an out-of-state warrant. His bond was set at $35,000 cash only, also with the condition that he not possess any weapons.

The third suspect, a juvenile, was also taken into custody.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
