JPD Arrests Suspect in Child Exploitation Case

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Jonesboro Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division and SWAT team collaborated in apprehending a suspect involved in a child exploitation case, a release this week from police said.

The investigation began on September 8th when the JPD ICAC Division received a Cybertip from the Arkansas State Police ICAC. The report indicated that the complainant had encountered an individual named Cortez Borders on a dating app. Subsequently, Cortez initiated contact through Facebook and shared his phone number. However, during their text conversations, Cortez allegedly began sending sexually explicit videos and photos involving juvenile females, requesting the recipient to delete them. Additionally, he allegedly asked the complainant to provide pictures of her young relatives.

In response to these serious allegations, JPD detectives brought Cortez Borders in for questioning at the police station. While being interviewed and after being read his Miranda rights, police say he admitted to having more child exploitation images on his phone.

As a result, a bench warrant was issued for Cortez Borders’ arrest on September 20th. He was taken into custody and subsequently transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. Following his arrest, he appeared for a probable cause hearing, during which bond was set at $150,000.
