MARION, Ark. — A former LSU football player and Ole Miss transfer received probation and house arrest after entering a no-contest plea tied to an Arkansas State Police pursuit that reached 129 mph in Crittenden County.
Carius Tynell Curne appeared in court April 27, 2026, with attorney T. Donaldson, according to court records. The case ended in a negotiated disposition, with Curne entering a no-contest plea and being found guilty.
Court records show Curne was ordered to pay $1,500 in fines and costs and was sentenced to one year in jail, suspended. He was also placed on one year of probation with Justice Network and ordered to serve 60 days of house arrest with Justice Network.
A $2,150 payment was received later that day, according to court records.
Curne was found guilty of first-degree reckless driving, fleeing on foot and speeding more than 15 mph over the limit. The remaining charges were nolle prossed, meaning prosecutors declined to pursue them.
The plea stemmed from an April 25, 2026, Arkansas State Police pursuit on U.S. Highway 70 and Interstate 40.
According to the ASP report, TFC Garrett Byrd was traveling east on U.S. Highway 70 near Lehi at about 2:42 p.m. when he saw a white Dodge Charger traveling westbound and appearing to exceed the posted 55 mph speed limit.
Byrd reported using radar to confirm the Charger was traveling 77 mph. As the vehicle passed, Byrd observed the driver and a white tag with black characters on the rear of the Charger, similar in appearance to a temporary tag.
After making a U-turn to conduct a traffic stop, Byrd reported that the Charger appeared to accelerate. The trooper activated his lights and siren and used front radar to capture the Charger traveling 129 mph, according to the report.
Byrd reported reaching speeds of 140 mph while attempting to catch up to the Charger. The vehicle continued at reckless speeds past other motorists and numerous driveways, according to ASP.
The Charger turned north onto Highway 79 toward Interstate 40, crossed the I-40 overpass and entered I-40 westbound at the 265-mile marker, the report said.
The pursuit continued westbound on I-40. Byrd reported the Charger continued fleeing at speeds well over 100 mph, maneuvered around heavy traffic and used the shoulder to pass vehicles.
Sgt. Steve Roberts positioned himself near the 256-mile marker to deploy a tire deflation device. As the Charger approached, it slowed and attempted to avoid the device, but the right-side tires struck it, according to the report.
The Charger stopped along the inside shoulder, and the driver was taken into custody without incident.
Byrd reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle and from Curne. Marijuana and rolling papers were found during a search of the vehicle, according to the report.
When Byrd told Curne he was under arrest for fleeing, Curne said he did not know the trooper was behind him, according to the report.
Curne was transported to the Crittenden County Jail and booked on charges including felony fleeing in a vehicle, creating a substantial danger of death, possession of Schedule VI less than 4 ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, speeding, and improper passing.
Curne, of Hughes, was previously reported by Sports Illustrated as a five-star LSU signee and top-30 prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Sports Illustrated also reported he transferred to Ole Miss after entering the NCAA transfer portal.
