Thieves target car dealership in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. – A very large theft took place over the holiday weekend at a car dealership in Jonesboro.

Sometime between December 23 and December 26, suspects broke into Cavenaugh Hyundai, 2020 Wilkins Avenue, and stole vehicles and property, the report filed with the Jonesboro Police Department said.

The theft was exceedingly large. Both vehicles and property were stolen in the incident, with the dealership reporting a black 2018 Hyundai Tuscon, a blue 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe, and an orange 2017 Hyundai Tuscon all stolen. Also stolen were several computer tablets. $469.95 in cash and $177.26 in checks were taken as well.

A report by Region 8 News said the door to the dealership was kicked in. From there, thieves had open access to the keys to vehicles including those being serviced that belonged to customers. At least two of the vehicles stolen belonged to customers, the police report said.

The suspects face multiple felony charges including commercial burglary, vehicle theft, and theft of $25,000 or more in property. Anyone with any information about this incident may submit a tip online to police here.

Not long after 4 AM Tuesday morning, police discovered a stolen white 2013 Honda Veloster in the 1000-block of Patrick Street. Authorities found meth rolled up in a dollar bill inside of the car. The report was grouped with the dealership theft report, indicating police suspect a possible connection.
