Felony charges after fighting with police
A suspect faces multiple felony charges including assaulting a law enforcement officer after fleeing a traffic stop early Monday in Jonesboro. At 1:23 AM, Officer Aasin Lester sought to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle (for defective license lights) at Gordon and Church streets. As he was about to active his blue lights, the front passenger door flew open and a passenger stepped out of the vehicle as the driver drove away.
While much of the report is still masked due to it involving felony charges, Officer Lester reported Robert Darell Carter, 52, of Jonesboro, fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, Carter was arrested. He is being charged with possession of meth/cocaine, possession of felony drug paraphernalia, fleeing, felony second-degree battery (injures an officer), aggravated assault on an officer, misdemeanor possession, and felony parole violation.
Two officers, Lester and Officer Tanner Huff, were treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, the report said. While the exact details are masked, the report indicates the suspect fought with officers. A used taser cartridge was logged into evidence.
In addition to meth, opioids, and other various narcotics found during the arrest, officers noted the vehicle that was being stopped was reported stolen.

Carter is being held in Craighead County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond as of this publication.
