WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Williams Baptist University biology students will discuss creation care and recount this summer’s environmental research trip to Florida on Monday, Oct. 14.
The students and faculty who took part in the marine conservation program will make their presentation at 6:00 p.m. in WBU’s Mabee Student Center.
Three Williams students were selected for the pilot research program and traveled with three faculty members to Titusville, Fla. They spent a month conducting research in marine conservation and performing community service to improve environmental quality in their work area.
The program was made possible by a $12,000 grant from the Bosch Community Fund to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields, and the Bosch fund has awarded a similar grant to WBU for the coming year.
The research was done in conjunction with A Rocha, a Christian nature conservation organization.
Students who took part in the program were Caleb Hickman of Pine Bluff, Ark.; Paige Johnson of Saffell, Ark.; and Kyrsten McLemore of Paragould, Ark. They were accompanied by Dr. Ann Paterson, Nell Mondy Chair of Natural Sciences and professor of biology at WBU, as well as Dr. Christopher Polachic and Dr. Steve McMann of the Williams science faculty.
The presentation Oct. 14 is free, and the public is invited. It will be held in the student lounge of the Mabee Student Center.
