One injured in Wednesday night shooting on Vine

JONESBORO, Ark. – Authorities canvassed city streets late Wednesday in search for clues of a shooting.

While police were on the scene and NEA Report was live, more gunfire rang out, alarming officers and those at the scene alike.

JPD’s Sally Smith said police began investigating around 10 PM after a fight broke out at Vine and Oak that led to shots fired. A gray or silver car was seen leaving the scene. A short time later, dispatched advised that a gunshot victim had arrived at a local hospital, which was placed on lock-down. Police weren’t certain the two events were related at the time of the release.

A witness posted to our live feed that a group of drug dealers live in an apartment complex on the street and that group frequently gets into loud arguments on the streets.

“There were eight shots in the air and then one shot at a person. I watched it happen. I live on Vine Street,” said the witness, whose name we are not republishing.

Fist fights broke out beforehand, she said, leading to the gunfire. Another witness said the people involved were also at the park on Olive Street, around the corner from Vine, causing a commotion there before the shooting.

No arrests had been made at the time of our live video. If you have any information which might assist police in their investigation, please call 870-935-6710 (CID). Crimestoppers is 870-935-STOP (anonymous).
