JONESBORO, Ark. – Jonesboro will get a taste of a championship-level event in a sport that is wildly popular in other parts of the world but is not widely understood in America: cricket.
The Arkansas-Tennessee Cricket League T20 2018 Championship will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 3, at Southside Softball Complex in the field south of the Miracle League.
City Parks and Recreation will a welcome sign and set up bleachers around the cricket pitch, and the team from the Jonesboro Wolfpack will compete against Little Rock Cricket Club for the title of champions of the 15-team league.
“This is a sport that is very well known on other continents, and I think it’s great that Jonesboro has such a competitive team,” Mayor Harold Perrin said. Jonesboro has won championship three times in the league’s 13-year history, but is competing for its first title since 2009.
Parks Director Danny Kapales said he hopes sports fans come out and cheer on the team. “It’s not very often we get a chance to host something as unique as this,” Kapales said.
Jonesboro businessman Junior Das will cook for fans, as well as compete in the match.
