CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. — An 18-year-old was arrested after a shots-fired call led law enforcement to a vehicle where authorities reported finding a firearm and marijuana, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Xavier Kane Jones, 18, was arrested after authorities responded July 9 to a report of shots fired in Craighead County. Deputies contacted two people who were walking along the road looking for shell casings. According to the affidavit, one of them provided security video showing a dark-colored SUV stopping before a muzzle flash could be seen from the driver’s window. The driver then appeared to exit the vehicle and kick something near the ground where the round impacted, authorities wrote.
One of the witnesses reportedly ran out to confront the occupants and described the driver to law enforcement. The vehicle later was stopped a short time later, and Jones was identified as the driver, according to the affidavit.
Authorities wrote that Jones was on active felony probation. The affidavit also states an officer reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a search, authorities reported finding a firearm under the front passenger seat and about 14 grams of marijuana.
Jones was arrested for possession of a firearm by certain persons, a Class D felony. He also faces misdemeanor allegations of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bond was set at $200,000. Jones tried to tell Judge David Boling that the firearm was not his, but the judge noted Jones had been arrested July 1 for similar allegations and was arrested again eight days later on a similar offense.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
