CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. — A man is accused of stealing a company vehicle after becoming angry during a dispute over a coffee cup, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Craighead County.
Randy Lloyd May faces an allegation of theft of a vehicle valued at more than $5,000 but less than $25,000, a Class C felony.
Deputies were sent to a property in Craighead County at about 8:45 a.m. Oct. 2 after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle, according to the affidavit.
The property director told deputies a resident had become angry and taken a vehicle belonging to the company. She said the dispute began after May left a coffee cup on a table and threw it into a sink when he was asked to put it away.
According to the affidavit, May then said that “if they wanted to act penitentiary he would show them penitentiary.” He allegedly stormed outside, entered the company vehicle and drove away.
Searcy police stopped and arrested May later that day while he was still driving the vehicle, the affidavit states.
A Class C felony is punishable by three to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety in an order dated Oct. 5. The order also notes May may be a candidate for drug court or veterans court.
May’s next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 23 in Craighead County Circuit Court.
The charge is an allegation. May is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
